Mercedes Benz MB W245 B-Class

Predecessor ---
Successor W246 B-Class

The Mercedes Benz MB W245 is a compact van by Mercedes Benz. It is sold under the name B-Class. It was marketed as Sports Tourer from mid-2005 to mid-2011, as well as the R-Class. According to the manufacturer, the B-Class combines the advantages of different vehicle concepts.

Like the Mercedes Benz A-Class, the B-Class is built according to the sandwich construction and has front-wheel drive. The engine and transmission are partly located in front of and partly below the passenger compartment, which saves space and ensures safety. In a frontal impact, the engine and transmission are pushed under the passenger compartment.

Despite its compact size, the B-Class offers five seats or the space of larger saloons and station wagons. The volume of 2,245 liters is larger in spite of smaller exterior than, for example, the Opel Zafira and VW Touran.

  • The model is internally referred to as T245.

  • On March 14, 2008, a revised version of the W245 was announced. The main focus of this facelift was on environmental friendliness, cost-effectiveness and comfort. Recognizable the car is on a "split" bumper, similar to the E-Class (W211).

  • The Mercedes Benz MB W242 / W246 is the successor model.
