Thus, an air bag, an improved crash structure of the body, in the doors integrated side impact protection, belt tensioners front, an automatic seat belt height adjustment rear and the anti-lock braking system were standard.

Further differences to the predecessor can be found in the electrical system: for example, electronic speedometer with digital display for kilometers and kilometers per day, instrument cluster with displays in transmitted light technology, warning light in case of failure of fluorescent lamps and a series tachometer. A central locking, also available with infrared remote control on request, also belongs to the standard equipment. A special feature is the pneumatic system, which drives the headlamp leveling, the central locking system and the optional fold-down rear head stanchions.

Combined vehicles are referred to as "T-model" at Mercedes Benz, for tourism and transport. The internal designation of the T-models always starts with the S before the serial number (eg S202 ). This derives from the internal name " station wagon ".

  • Successor was the W203.
