Mercedes Benz MB CL203 CLC-Class

Predecessor ---
Successor CL204 CLC-Class

The Mercedes Benz MB CL203 is a Mercedes Benz sports coupe built between the fall of 2000 and the beginning of 2011. Until a major overhaul in spring 2008, the vehicle was sold as a C-Class sports coupe, after which it was renamed the CLC Class. The basis for the CL203 was the W203 series.

In early February 2011 the production of the CLC, still based on the W203 series, was replaced by the coupe (internally C204) based on the subsequent C-Class W204 series.

The design is coupé-typical: at the front similar to the saloon, the sideline rises steeply and ends in a high stern, which is rounded off by a spoiler; the trunk holds 310 liters. The cockpit is almost identical to the saloon except for the trim of the instrument cluster. The starting price for launch was 24,128 euros (including 16% VAT in Germany) for the C 180.

In mid-2002, the 2.0-liter engine of the C 180 sports coupe was replaced by a 1.8 liter, this supercharged engine now produces 105 kW (143 hp). The supercharged engine used in the C 200 was also slightly optimized. The C 230 supercharger received a power-optimized 1.8-liter supercharged engine with 141 kW (192 hp).

There were two model maintenances.

First model maintenance

From April 2004.

The bodywork, the interior and the technology have been refined. At the front you can see the improved model of redesigned bumpers with a distinctive lower air intake, the radiator grille with three blades and the clear-glass headlamps. At the rear, only the lights were redesigned. The track is widened, the steering, the gearbox and the chassis have been revised. The aim was to improve driving performance without sacrificing comfort.

The cockpit was redesigned and looked fresher. In addition, the sports coupe received a new three-spoke steering wheel with silver buttons. The model care measures were rounded off by new safety and comfort extras. Bi-xenon headlights as well as new audio systems with integrated navigation system and as top version a DVD-supported "Comand system" with extra large color screen were available immediately.

Second model maintenance

From May 2008. Since this MOPF, the CL203 has been sold as a CLC class.

The front of the body was adapted to the appearance of the C-Class W204 series, remodeled the rear and slightly changed the interior. The basic shape of the body and the cockpit remained untouched. Inside, there were some new details such as the more contoured sports seats, generous use of brushed aluminum trim, a new sports steering wheel and a new generation of infotainment systems. The navigation information is now a large color monitor and a DVD or hard disk drive and for iPod, USB stick or SD card with a new interface, with the external music player can be connected to use.

From the second week of January 2011, the CLC was no longer available to order as a new car, since the last new car rolled off the line in early February.
