The Mercedes Benz MB R172 is a roadster from Mercedes Benz. The cabrio represents the third generation of the SLK class (from 2016 SLC class) and is the successor to the R171. The dealer premiere in Europe took place on March 26, 2011.
The typical for roadster long bonnet has been preserved, instead of the front with reference to the Formula 1 vehicles, the SLK now is recognizable on a grill with a center strut, which carries the star in the grill, and below shows another central air intake. The upper end of the hood shape two large air outlets. In contrast to its predecessors, the rearview mirrors with integrated turn signals are on the door flanks, just like in the CLS.The headlights are aligned horizontally and the turn signals are as LED bar at the bottom of the same. In addition, LED daytime running light bands are placed in the side inlets of the front apron. The rising sideline and short tail were also retained.However, the shark fin design antenna (for DAB + and comfort telephony) is on the tail. The tail is optically widened by the bulging LED lights.
There are the following packages for the R172:
- Sports package AMG
On request, the AMG sports package is available, which includes a front and rear apron and side skirts in AMG design, bright-laced 18-inch AMG 5-spoke light-alloy wheels and special LED daytime running lights.
- Driving dynamics package
The driving dynamics package has a 10 mm lowered chassis, an electronically controlled, fully automatic damping system and a direct-tuned steering. In addition, the package includes the so-called Torque Vectoring Brake. This is a braking system that makes one-sided braking interventions on the inside rear wheel to prevent understeer.
- Memory package
The memory package stores the individual settings for the seats, the steering column and the exterior mirrors for up to three people and also includes a spine-supporting 4-way lumbar support. In addition - exclusively - in the memory package the curb automatic contain (that is, the lowering of the right outside mirror when reversing).
- Interior light package
The interior light package offers a variety of interior and exterior light units. These include illuminated make-up mirrors, the footwell lighting, the illuminated storage compartment in the center console and the illuminated exit strip as well as the exterior lighting on the underside of the exterior mirrors.

- Special edition 1
At the start of the market, there is also the special model Edition 1 with the special designo gletscher gray magno paint that includes the AMG sports package, the driving dynamics package and the interior lighting package. In addition, this model is recognizable by designo floor mats, two-tone designo leather nappa seats in black / titan pearl; the fittings are also upholstered in designo leather and the headroom heater Airscarf and the panoramic vario roof are included as standard in the package. - Special model pure Roadster
Until 31st August 2011 the special model Roadster pure was offered. This is the SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY, which can only be combined with a few optional extras. These include: the 7G-Tronic Plus 7-speed automatic transmission, the panoramic vario-roof and the Comand Online multimedia system. As standard, this special model features 18-inch 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, a 10-mm lowered sports suspension, LED daytime running lights, metallic paint and leather, including a seat heater.
