The Mercedes Benz MB R171 is a roadster from Mercedes Benz. The cabrio is the second generation of the SLK class and successor to the Mercedes Benz R170. Sales start in Europe was March 27, 2004.
The electro-hydraulic roof mechanism has been slightly modified compared to its predecessor. In the new model, the rear window rotates in its frame, so that its curvature points upwards in the folded state. As a result, the trunk could be increased in the Cabriomodus.
- New in the SLK and for the first time in a cabrio from Mercedes Benz was the optional headspace heater Airscarf.
- The R171 conveys heated air through ducts in the seat and headrest, directing a warm jet on the neck of the driver and front passenger.
- The temperature is adjustable in three stages and the fan speed automatically adapts to the speed.
- The distinctive front is a reference to the supercar Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren by McLaren Mercedes and has led to the nicknamed "coati".
- The new model received a new front apron, which is intended to be more dynamic, as well as larger, trapezoidal tailpipes, diffuser optics and darker lights at the rear.

- Edition 10
To mark the tenth anniversary of the SLK, Mercedes launched the Special Edition 10 in January 2007. On request, there is limited to 350 models matt gray metallic finish Allanit gray Magno, which is reserved for this model. In addition, silver-colored decorative seams, which increase the contrast between black and silver, are used on the seats. Speedometer and tachometer underline the exclusivity of this model with red scale rings. - 2LOOK edition
At the Geneva Motor Show in 2009, Mercedes presented the limited edition of 300 pieces special model with the name 2LOOK Edition. The SLK 2LOOK Edition is only available in the colors black and calcite white. In the interior, the leather upholstery are accordingly in the other color to achieve a high contrast. - Grand edition
On January 11, 2010 Mercedes put on another special model. The SLK Grand Edition stands out with an exclusive livery and a refined interior of the other SLK models. In this model, the third brake light is darkened; Silver fins on the air intakes are mounted on the hood. Further distinguishing features are the darkened borders of the headlamps and the logos ("Grand Edition") on the fenders. In the interior, all applications are clothed in leather. The leather seats are in the color "designo basalt gray pearl" held.
On March 26, 2011, the R171 was replaced by the third generation R172.
